Newsletter Report Term 2 Week 8

Dear Holy Name Families,

Congratulations

Holy Name School is blessed to have some outstanding staff, committed to the wellbeing and learning of our students.  Two of our staff were nominated in the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Excellence Awards; Kirralee Bronkhurst in the Early Career Teacher category and Sophie Elms in the Emerging Leader category.  We were very excited to learn this week that Mrs Elms has been named as one of three finalists in her category!  We will find out at the gala dinner in Catholic Education Week next term who is the overall winner.  Congratulations Sophie on the well-deserved recognition for the outstanding work you do here at Holy Name School.

Expectations

On Tuesday, Holy Name School had a visit from Dr Pat Coughlan, the Executive Director of the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office.  He was able to spend some time with me to discuss how things are going in my first 6 months as a principal, visit our students and enjoy a shared morning tea with our staff. Two things that Dr Pat has spoken about with the principals on several occasions are these:

  • We accept the behaviour we walk past
  • We need to be 10x more explicit with our expectations than we think

As we navigate our way through the ¾ point of the term, I believe it is timely for me to remind the Holy Name School community of my expectations.

The following are the behaviour expectations for students at Holy Name School.

  • All students will treat others respectfully (including classmates, staff and volunteers).
  • All students will keep their hands, feet and objects to themselves.
  • All students will speak kindly to each other (offensive and/or abusive language is not okay).
  • All students include and extend hospitality to others.
  • All students take responsibility for their own actions and accept the consequences of these actions.
  • All students will speak-up when they witness someone being bullied – Bullying will NOT be tolerated at Holy Name School.

Staffing News

I am very excited to announce that we will have a groundsman begin at Holy Name School next week!  Mr Tony Morrish is very experienced in grounds care and maintenance, owning and operating his own business in the field for almost 20 years.  We look forward to welcoming Tony to the Holy Name Community.

Sing Out

Congratulations to our choir for their outstanding performance at Sing Out on Wednesday.  This dedicated group of students have given up their own time; lunchtimes and after school, to prepare for this performance at the Empire Theatre.  A huge thank you to Mr Schonfeld and Mr Dore for their expert assistance in conducting and accompanying the choir at our rehearsals and the performance.

Condolences

We have several members of our community who have lost loved ones in the past fortnight.  We hold all these people in our hearts and prayers.

May eternal rest grant to them O Lord,

And perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen

All the best for the remainder of the term.

God Bless

Lisa Cavanagh

APRE news - Kerri-Ann Manthey

Prayer

God who loves us despite all that separates us, heal us so that there will be no divisions amongst us. Guide your people to become perfectly united in mind and thought.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Blessings
